Vol. 81, No. 8 President – John Bickhart Editor – Dottie Anderson
This Week: Aug. 30, 2007- Club Assembly. Agenda: 1. discuss 07-08 budget and special projects, and 2. learn about the changes in membership proposal procedures. SVCC, 11:45 am.
August 23, 2007 – Approximately 30 members and members and guests were present for this power-point presentation about the ‘07 Summer Seals Program by Dr. Michael Hayes. Joyce Anderson (we are delighted she is back) introduced her granddaughter, Gwen Anderson, a new 4th grade student; Steva Stowell introduced Melissa Frank, an optometrist recently arrived in the area. Thanks extended to Shawn Felty for the in-kind contribution of brochures and shirts for the Summer Seals program. Preliminary data indicate a slight improvement in word’s per minute read and a 10% improvement in math by the students attending the summer program. The power-point presentation prepared by Director Lauren Bush was enjoyable and enabled a better understanding of the nature of the program and the growth and enjoyment experienced by participants. Michael thanked all who helped with the program, both with time and financial contributions. Editorial note: Michael’s persistence has much to do with making this program happen and continue – we are in his debt for his hard work on behalf of children.
