April 17, 2008 – Forty-eight Rotarians, partners and guests were present for this special program, a highlight of the Rotary year.  The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Harvey Edwards for his service to his students, his profession and his community.  A member of the Selinsgrove Area High School English Department since 1988, Harvey is the founder of the Tolerance Troupe, advisor to the Student Council, co-founder of the AYSO Soccer program, as well as numerous other community projects.  He was one of 12 finalists for the PA Teacher of the Year in 2007. Mike Flock, Director of Club Service, introduced several persons who shared both professional and personal reflections. Speakers included Superintendent Fred Johnson, former student Ashley Hook (now a sophomore at Bucknell), and teacher colleagues Mike Lawson and Ray Moyer. Harvey’s commitment to his students, his profession and his community has had a positive impact on life in this community. The Group Study Exchange Team from Brazil presented a program about their country. They’ve had a busy and productive week with club host families (Fischers, Flocks, Mendonca/Hackman, Bowens, and Skinner), starting with this past weekend’s District Conference, the trip to DC on Tuesday, and their Vocational Day on Wed. Members of the team include Paulo Studart Filho, Team Leader; Andreia Turolo da Silva, Tatiana Teofilo Scipiao, Carlos Ernesto Correia Filho, and Sidney Melo de Sousa.  President John Bickhart also saluted the West Snyder Club on its 50^th anniversary celebration.
