Vol. 81, No. 44                President – John Bickhart                       Editor – Michael Hayes   *************************************************************************************

This Week: 2007-2008 Selinsgrove Area Youth Foundation/Rotary Club Scholarship recipients will be honored, and Roxanne Seltzer will present a short practice speech entitled, “Disappearance of the American Farmer,” with a Q&A period to follow.

May 8, 2008 30 Rotarians enjoyed a presentation by Jennifer L. Lee, FLA, Senior Project Manager from Derck & Edson, and Michael Coyne, SU’s VP of Finance and Treasurer, about the new science building, University Avenue improvements, and West Village housing. Ms. Lee shared an overview of the University’s current master plan. The West Village housing project (completed in phases) will add significantly to the University’s housing capacity, and the project design is sustainable with LEAD certification. Two buildings (second phase) are under construction currently with projected completion in August ’08. The new science center will be erected (beginning late this spring) in the parking lot across from Seibert Hall – directly in front of the SU Children’s Center and will also be LEAD certified. Completion if projected for August ’10. Proposed improvements to University are being discussed with the Borough, which are intended to slow down traffic and increase pedestrian safety. Cross walks and redesigned curbing/surrounding material will convey to motorists the need to slow their driving speed – as if they’re driving through campus. Three completed memorial spaces were shown at various locations on campus.
