This Week:
Sept.25, 2008 – Twenty-nine Rotarians and one guest listened to fellow Rotarian attorney Marvin Rudnitsky speak about planning for disability. Marv began by sharing the statistic that only 44% of all people have a will, and far less have a power of attorney. When planning for a loved one, disinheritance issues need to be considered for a special needs child or parent. Also, the power to sign your loved one’s name needs to be considered. This can be done through a power of attorney or the establishment of guardianship. In planning for yourself, you need a power of attorney to handle your financial affairs, including retirement assets, social security, income tax matters, and estate planning. Your also need to establish a health care proxy so someone can make decisions for you if you are unable to do so yourself. Also, a living will and an anatomical gift form should be considered. Marv also discussed the ways in which long term care is paid (personal assets/family, Medicare/Medicare supplement, long term care insurance, Medicaid) and how this can affect your future and that of your family.
Abby Yavorek, the High School Student of the Month for September, was the Club’s guest.
Mike Flock and Art Bowen presented four way test personal examples.
