This Week: Oct. 23rd – Michael Piecuch, Chief of Staff for Speaker of the PA House of Representatives, Dennis O’Brien. John Stokinger will edit the Newsletter.

October 9, 2008 – 9 Rotarians were present for Coaches’ Night hosted by the Sunbury Rotary Club at the Edison Hotel. The featured speakers were Coach Dave Hess of the Selinsgrove Area High School Seals and Coach Stan Seiple of the Shikellamy High School Braves. Coach Hess began his coaching career as an assistant coach 25 years ago. He gave thanks to his wife and family for being very supportive of his acceptance of the Head Coaching position this year.  Coach Hess shared historical pictures of his grandfather, a quarterback for the Pineknotters, and his father who played for Shikellamy under Coach Hatton. Coach Hess emphasized the strong connection of players and coaches from Shikellamy to Selinsgrove. He shared his philosophy and perspective on the football program in that it should have positive impact on the kids and prepare them for the future after high school. Coach Seiple echoed Coach Hess’ sentiments about the positive impact of the football program on youth. He noted that Selinsgrove is now ranked #6 in the state and he looks forward to winning some “battles” on Friday. Coach Seiple noted that he is in a re-building stage for the Shikellamy program, and he hopes a positive attitude of players will transcend to the school and community.  He feels the score of the game is not as important as just playing hard. Coach Seiple thanked the Rotary Clubs for their contributions to the community.

Quotation:  "Life is made of moments, small pieces of glittering mica in a long stretch of gray cement. It would be wonderful if they came to us unsummoned, but particularly in lives as busy as the ones most of us lead now, that won’t happen. We have to teach ourselves how to live, really live… to love the journey, not the destination.” -Anna Quindlen
