This Week: November 20, 2008 – Presentation on energy conservation by Megan Epler and Jess Scott from SEDA-COG. Annual meeting will be convened to elect 2009-10 officers and directors.  SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Nov. 13, 2008 – Thirty-three Rotarians and guests were present for this salute to Selinsgrove Rotarians who are Veteran’s. John Trappe, Earl Ferster, Bob Soper, former Rotarian Bill Clark (Bob Soper’s guest), Jerry Rhoades, Hal Schriver, Don Harnum, Shane Hendricks, Nelson Bailey, John Fischer, Marv Rudnitsky and Jack Rousch (WW II navy vet and survivor of four landings, including Normandy Beach), spoke of their service, identifying era and branch of service.  Joyce Anderson introduced Robert Rachau, Vietnam vet and Post Commander of the VFW Post 6631, who spoke about his service and the work of the Veterans of Foreign War. Founded in 1899 following the Spanish American War, the VFW has been instrumental in improving the benefits and services provided to vets, in addition to pursuing numerous community and service projects.  Thanks are extended to Joyce Anderson for planning and arranging this very meaningful program.

 

The Nominations Committee announced the following slate for 2009-10 (including changes that occurred after the meeting): President: Jeff Edmunds; President Elect: Fred Johnson; Vice President: Leo Mendonca; Secretary: John Stokinger; Treasurer: Ken Wagner; Community Service: John Bickhart; International Service: Konrad Kempfe & Leo Mendonca; Vocational Service: Tom Gates; Club Service: nominee needed; Past President: Michael Hayes; Selinsgrove Recreation, Inc: terms till 2012 – Cathy Kline and Shane Hendricks.                                 . 

Announcements: Rotarians are asked to sign up for time to help at a Purple Pinkie Polio Plus event on Nov. 22 at Susquehanna University during the Pepsi Tip-Off Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament.  Times: 3-7 p.m.  We will be assisted by members of the cross country and track and field teams.  Please tell Mike Hayes if you can help.**Art Bowen confirms that the Rotary Family Holiday Party will occur at 6 p.m. on December 18.  Please put this on your calendar and invite your family to join you for this celebratory event. A sign up sheet will be circulated later this month.***Tree Fest will be held Dec. 5-19 at the All Saints Episcopal Church Social Hall – Rotary is doing a tree based on the book No Matter What by Debi Gliori. Anyone “up” for making stars?****Ken Miller asks that members with some time rake leaves at Rotary Field – pick a tree and rake some leaves to the curb. This will save the Club about $200 if we don’t have to hire someone to do this.

Sergeant at arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected fines as follows: Happy Birthday to Donna Schuck and from many members in memory of fathers, brothers, grandfathers and friends who have served in the military.

Dec. 4 – L. Jay Lemons, President of Susquehanna University, will be the speaker. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Dec. 11 – Dr. Juan Delgado, Trip to Peru, SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Dec. 18 – Family Holiday Party, guests welcome, 6:00 p.m., SVCC. Sign up sheet will be circulated.

Dec. 25 – Christmas Day. No Meeting.
