Dec. 11. 2008 – Thirty-five plus Rotarians and guests were present to hear Dr. Juan Delgado speak about his native land, Peru. A democratic country of about 22 million, half of that number resides in the capital, Lima.  Peru is known as a country of contrasts, as the coast is very arid, then it moves to the Amazon jungle and rain forest area, then the mountains.  Since 1995, businesses have been privatized and the economy has improved.  The enigma of the Nazca Lines and the Incan Citadel at Machu Picchu are major areas of interest for visitors to Peru.  Examples of the four way test: receipt of the $25,000 matching grant to pay for the construction of a hydrotherapy pool for children in Brazil; the SSDC receiving a $4600 grant from the Sunbury Area Health Foundation; John Fischer (Mike Hayes going to the movies with Mike F this Friday); Mike Flock (gifts for children); Fred Johnson (Teacher’s Association designating funds from dress down day for Polio Plus).  Guests: Don Harnum introduced Peggy Reichenbach of Big Brothers/Sisters program (here to receive donation from the SAYF) and Fred Johnson introduced Paulette Armbruster who introduced Student of the Month Morgan Botdorf.  Morgan is the Borough of Selinsgrove’s first junior council person, a member of the honor society and the high school Student Council; she hopes to attend F and M in the fall to study psychology or political science.  Konrad Kempfe introduced Mike Damiano’s secretary here to assist with visual aids for our speaker.
