Jan. 15,  2009 – Approximately thirty-five Rotarians and guests were present to hear Jessica Newell, Selinsgrove’s Main Street Manager, describe her grant funded work.  She was introduced by the President of SPI, Judy Spiegel.  In addition to event coordination (ex. Market St. Festival, Brew Fest, White Christmas and late shoppers night), planning is underway for a Façade Improvement Grant program to begin this spring.  Jessica is a graduate if IUP, a mother of two grade school children, and the wife of a Milton School District Assistant Principal.  She enjoys her work marketing and working with Selinsgrove businesses. Fred Johnson introduced two teachers who in turn introduced the November and January Student of the Month: Don Wilhour introduced Laura King who plans to attend IUP (nursing program) in the fall and Jim Messner introduced Brad Billings.  Brad will attend Malone University in Ohio on a baseball scholarship. Visitors: Don Harnum’s wife, Connie and Dr. Donald Trapp’s wife, Alice.  The Trapp’s are celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary, and their daughter Donna Shuck provided a cake to be shared with all in attendance.  Example of the 4 Way Test: Mark Johnson had the polio plus globe at his business all week and added $17 on our goal, Ken Miller will have it at his business this week.

Announcements: At its meeting last Thursday, the Board met with Major Sharon Cupp, Sunbury Salvation Army, to discuss the suspension of the bell ringing program.  Major Cupp has been invited to present a program to the Club in April, after which the board will revisit its decision about the Club’s participation in the bell ringing program.*The Board accepted Fred Johnson’s resignation as President Elect and approved the appointment of John Stokinger as President Elect for the 09-10 Rotary year.  Fred found it necessary to withdraw because he will be serving as President-Electe of the Pensylvania School Administrators Association.  This leaves the secretary position open.  It is a position which requires a person who is computer literate and proficient with e-mail and able to provide data and reports to Rotary International and District 7370 via the computer.  A nomination and/or a volunteer for the Secretary position is welcomed by the board and this information should be shared and discussed with current President Elect, Jeff Edmunds. ***A fund raising committee has been formed, with a member from each of the avenues of service, to review current projects and make recommendations for changes and/or additions. ****Mike Flock requests nominations for this year’s Distinguished Service Award – form will be provided.
