May 14, 2009 – Twenty-eight Rotarians and guests were present to hear Dr. Fred Johnson, Superintendent of the Selinsgrove Area School District, and Mrs. Lucinda Krouse, Principal of the Elementary School, present pictures and descriptions of the renovations and expansion of the Elementary School.  School Board President Eric Rowe provided history and background leading to the importance of the project.  He indicates this is the final step in meeting the numerous issues presented when he first was elected to the Board.  Dr. Johnson shared that the first step of this project was taken in 2004, with groundbreaking on the project occurring in June, 2008.  Mrs. Krouse shared that the students and teachers have dealt well with the various moves and locations that have had to be used this year. The project is on schedule for fall occupancy, with the gym slightly behind schedule.  A full open house and dedication will occur in Oct. or Nov.

 Announcements: Savor Selinsgrove fund raiser is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, ticket cost is $20. Many Rotarians are both buying and selling tickets. Sign up sheet circulated for helpers on the 30th.*Selinsgrove Area Youth Foundation 15th anniversary special event – June 4 – spouses, partners, guest welcome.**June 6 is the Little League Tournament and Chicken Barbeque – tickets were distributed and will be mailed to those not in attendance today. If you don’t sell these tickets, you’ve bought them! Sign up sheet circulating for help on the 6th.***Mike Damiano reminds all members that is it EREY time. $3150 on our goal of $5000 raised to date.****Dottie Anderson will be the Club’s voting member at the Rotary International Conference in Birmingham, England in June.

Sergeant at arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected fines as follows: Happy Birthday to John Stokinger (and attending Star Trek with daughter); from Ken Miller (enjoyed hosting guest for Beds for a Cause and for help planting trees at Rotary Field yesterday); Mike Flock (quip about Ken and Elk; half way through renovation project at home); Mike Damiano (daughter’s academic priorities and Club donation to fund medical supplies for Zambia mission trip); John Fischer (4 way test remembered); Mary Peterhaensel (Wellsboro trip and missing meeting); Kendra Aucker (late and daughter’s successful first year at college); Toby Skinner (cast off at last); Nelson Bailey (granddaughter’s softball success); Jennifer Johnston (son’s first steps and doing the Mark Lawrence show about library concerns); Fred Johnson (guests and teams winning districts); Charlie McCuen (granddaughter’s 2nd birthday); and Earl Ferster (+15 and the needed rain).

May 28 – Judy Spiegel will speak about the work of Selinsgrove Projects, Inc. Last meeting of the month: bring a guest.  SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

June 4 – Richard Smith, Chief Operations Officer, Evangelical Comm. Hospital. Kendra Aucker hosts. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

June 11 – Family Picnic and Pool Party, 6 p.m., SVCC Pool Area. An event designed especially for members with young families and members with grandchildren. Sign up sheet will be circulated.

June 18 – Renata Muhr from Brazil will be the speaker. Leo Mendonca host. John Stokinger will edit the newsletter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
