May 21, 2009 – Thirty-five Rotarians and guests were present for this program featuring the four students selected to be recipients of the Rotary/Selinsgrove Area Youth Foundation scholarships. Tom Gates, President of the SAYF spoke about the history of this program which is funded annually by $4000 from the Club and $10,000 from the SAYF. Kendra Aucker, Chair of the SAYF Scholarship Committee introduced Chris Lupolt, Guidance Counselor at the high school, acknowledging the important role that department serves in identifying students who are eligible for the scholarships. From the Selinsgrove Area High School, Kendra introduced Brad Billings (he will attend Malone University in Canton, Ohio to study integrated sciences and will continue to play baseball); and Ryan Boyer (who will attend main campus of Penn State to study engineering); and Matt Heintzelman (who plans to attend Penn State, starting in the Liberal Arts).From the SUN Area Career and Technology program, she introduced Nathan Smith who will attend the Penna. Gunsmith School in Avalon, PA.  Nathan is NIMS qualified in several areas of metal work.  Jeff Edmunds presided at the meeting.

Announcements: Savor Selinsgrove fund raiser is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, ticket cost is $20. Rotarians are both buying and selling tickets. Sign up sheet circulated for helpers on the 30th.*Selinsgrove Area Youth Foundation 15th anniversary event – June 4, SVCC – spouses, partners, guest welcome.**June 6 is the Little League Tournament and Chicken Barbeque – tickets have been distributed in person or by mail. If you don’t sell these tickets, you’ve bought them – $82.00 a pack! Sign up sheet circulating for help on the 6th.

Sergeant at arms: Marv Rudnitsky first introduced Jack Roush who is celebrating his 91st birthday. Jack provided cake and ice cream and spoke about how important his marriage and continuing to have fun and stay active is responsible for his longevity. Marv collected fines as follows: from Jack for his Birthday; from John Fischer (announcement of engagement to Gail Burd and wedding coming in Oct.); Konrad Kempfe (trip); Fred Johnson (student and staff guests and last nights concert); Joyce Anderson (for Jack and grandson’s T-ball success); John Bickhart (learning table manners from Art Bowen); Tom Gates (Kendra’ work as chair of the Scholarship Selection committee); Jerry Rhoads (Mass. Trip and surgery); Ha l Schriver (election results); Jeff Edmunds (proud of his daughter’s and son’s respective performances); himself (39th Penn State graduate in the family); and Earl Ferster (+ $15 and John and Gail).

June 11 – Family Picnic and Pool Party, 6 p.m., SVCC Pool Area. An event designed especially for members with young families and members with grandchildren. Sign up sheet will be circulated.

June 18 – Renata Muhr from Brazil will be the speaker. Leo Mendonca host. John Stokinger will edit the newsletter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

June 25 – Installation of ’09-’10 Club Officers and Directors and Paul Harris Award presentations. Kendra Aucker will edit the newsletter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
