May 28, 2009 – Twenty-nine Rotarians and guests were present for this program featuring Judy Spiegel, Rotarian and President of Selinsgrove Projects, Inc. She described the work of that organization as it seeks to keep this community economically vital and vibrant. Also present: Mike Coyne, Treasurer of SPI; Jessica Newell, Main Street Manager; Toby Skinner’s guests from M & T Bank, Terry Moore and Karl Conrad. SPI was started in 1985 and has been a 501c3 organization since then, with amendments to the bylaws occurring in 1999 (working in conjunction with the Selinsgrove Chamber) and in 2005 when it reestablished itself as a separate organization. Working committees include Economic Restructuring, Promotions Initiatives, and Design Committee. Projects include: Farmer’s Market; Brew/Wine Fest; Market St. Festival; White Christmas Celebrations; Discovery Trails; Historic Preservation; and the Selinsgrove Commons.  The purposes of SPI are to ”promote and assist in the growth, development and conservation of the unique character and heritage of Selinsgrove….” Planning for the July Brew/Wine Fest anticipates attendance of 1000 and this has become a major fund raiser for SPI. SPI, the Chamber and Jessica are all involved with Rotary in this Saturday’s Savor Selinsgrove fund raiser.  Tickets for that event are available from several Rotarians, Jessica and participating businesses. President Mike has received a thank you note form Pat Pinkowski for the card and flowers (thanks Joyce). Pat anticipates returning to Rotary soon.
