July 9, 2009 – Twenty-eight Rotarians and guests were present for new District Governor Carl Askew’s official visit. Sharon Benner, Assistant DG, introduced Carl, citing his many international and district wide Rotary experiences. Carl is a member of the Sunbury Club since 1995 and retired from teaching after 30 years.  Carl cited RI President Kenney in describing the meaning of this year’s theme – The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands – that is, the future of Rotary is in the hands of each and every member and dependent on each and every member taking their responsibilities as Rotarians seriously.  Carl’s goals for the district included Polio plus Campaign, literacy, water, health and hunger.  His specific goals are practical and attainable: each Club President challenged to sponsor a new member, each Club to add a community service project, a representative of the Club present for every district activity, with two members identified to attend the Leadership Institute.  Following the Club meeting, the DG met with the 09-10 Board.
