November 12, 2009 – With Dottie Anderson acting as MC, the Club saw the Steve Patterson video of the Summer Seals Day Camp, heard a description of the curriculum from Camp Director Ryan McGuire, a quick summary of comparative math and reading comparisons of campers vs. non-campers from Principal Terry Heintzelman, and a description of how the teachers are selected from Susquehanna’s Educ. Dept. Chair and SSDC Board Member Anne Reeves. Mike Flock and John Bickhart spoke of the campers experiences at the pond.  Guests in addition to speakers included SSDC Board VP Judy Kleinbauer, Toby Skinner’s guest Ruth Roush, and John Fischer’s guests from Ecuador, Sori Losa who will be visiting until mid February.  John Stokinger, for the Nominations Committee (John, Mike Hayes and John Bickhart), did the second reading of the following slate for 2010-11: President – John Stokinger; President-Elect – Donna Shuck; Vice President – Pat Pinkowski; Secretary – Hal Dunkelberger; Treasurer – Ken Wagner; Past President – Jeff Edmunds; Directors: Joyce Anderson, Club Service; John Bickhart, Community Service; Konrad Kempfe, International Service; Mark Johnson, Vocational Service. Selinsgrove Rec., Inc nominees for terms running to 2014: Shane Hendricks and Toby Skinner.  There were no additional nominations from the floor on this second call. Joyce Anderson presented Hal Schriver a large candy bar in acknowledgement of his 34th anniversary as a Selinsgrove Rotarian.

Announcements: Rotary Foundation Dinner is at Tedd’s on the Hill, 6 p.m. November 18. In support of DG Carl Askew, several members are attending. Do plan to join us. Cost is $25 per person. *Tom Gates is looking for 4 or 5 volunteers to help move and assemble artificial Christmas trees on 11/29 for Tree Fest. The Club book selected for Tree Fest is Andy and Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure, written by Andrew Shoup for the Fairborn, Ohio Rotary Club Literacy Project. Committee includes Pat Pinkowski, Joyce Anderson’s granddaughter, Toby Skinner and Dottie Anderson.**Hal Schriver is circulating a sign up sheet for Rotarians to Ring the Bell for the Salvation Army this holiday season. Two more volunteers are needed for 12/1 late shoppers night.***January meetings will be held at BJ’s in Selinsgrove.****Ken Miller thanks those who have raked leaves at the field. A leaf blower to get the middle of the field leaves in piles would be helpful.*****Hal Dunkelberger reminds us of request for donations to the Rotary International Rose Bowl Float.

Acting Sergeant at arms: John Stokinger collected fines as follows: Happy Birthday to Jerry Rhoades (who paid an additional fine for brother’s celebration and coming “event”) and from Fred Johnson (Ohio State wone, visiting with Ryan Shuck and seeing him play, new gym signed over, and for his staff at today’s program); Ken Miller and Kendra Aucker (field hockey success); Pat Pinkowski (grandson’s earning all A’s) John Fischer (the SSDC and his guest, and Brazilian honeymoon); John Thompson (selling Pittsburgh house); Mike Hayes (late and today’s program); Toby Skinner (her guest); Mary Peterhaensel (Swedish craft experience); Don Summers (late and Dictionary Project’s success); Mike Flock (Ryan McGuire’s work); John Stockinger (grandchildren visit); Hal Schriver (late); Bill Clark (14th month old granddaughter’s visit) Tom Gates (twin’s neat remark); and Hal Dunkelberger (Earl’s plus $15).
