February 4, 2010 – As we returned to the Susquehanna Valley Country Club, approximately 40 Rotarians and guests were present for a presentation by Pat Hess, owner of Colonial Candlecrafters.  Guests: Tom Gates friend Gary Charles and Mike Hayes’ guest, Jessica Newell, Selinsgrove’s

. Manager. Peg’s parents started Colonial Candlecrafters in the family home in 1970 with 10 lbs of wax. In March of 1972, they moved to the current location. Peg and her husband bought the business in 1982 This is a thriving business – both on the internet and at the store location.  Peg demonstrated candle making and decoration technique and displayed the different types of products now offered. Special order candles include ones with invitations imbedded for wedding, anniversary and birthday events. A board meeting followed the regular meeting. One item of business was confirmation that the Savor Selinsgrove event will occur on May 15 (SU’s commencement weekend), co-sponsored by the Club, SPI, Inc and the Selinsgrove Chamber. Funds made will be split with SPI for the Commons project and Rotary international relief projects.

Announcements: Nominees for the Distinguished Service Award must be submitted by Feb. 5 to Chair, Joyce Anderson. Qualifications: Candidates should reside in the Selinsgrove Area School District, be a non-Rotarian, and have demonstrated service to our community. Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information about Rotary International and USAid partnership program to provide potable water, hygiene and sanitation in Ghana, the Dominican Republic and the Philippines.

Sergeant at arms: Marvin Rudnitsky collected fines as follows: Happy Birthday to Toby Skinner, from John Stokinger (trip to Poconos and son turning 32); Tom Gates (his guest and Nassau vacation); Toby Skinner (Don and Connie Harnum on trip to Paris); Mike Piecuch (Jessica Newell); Charlie McCuen (son receiving full scholarship to continue school in Japan); Art Bowen (grandchild’s birthday); himself (Selinsgrove High School Football and being in the tob ten of high schools across the country).
