February 11, 2010 – Thirty-one Rotarians and guests were present for “Where is the Black Bear?” – A presentation by Derk Reimensnyder, a wildlife conservation officer with the PA Game Commission. Ken Wagner served as host. Jim Charles was present as Mike Flock’s guest. John Stokinger presided. Officer Reimensnyder presented a very interesting program, sharing Game Warden stories and information about ways humans and black bears can “live together.” Black bears, averaging between 200 and 500 lbs as adults, can run 28 miles per hour. Female bears can breed only every other year, having two to five cubs per litter, weighing 6 to 12 ounces at birth. Bears are born while mother in hibernation, in late January. Joyce Anderson presented Rotary anniversary candy bars to Mary Peterhaensel for 4 years and Ken Miller for 38 years as a Rotarian. John Stokinger expressed thanks to Joyce for being “our” valentine and provided candy on the tables.
Announcements: Nominees have been submitted for the Distinguished Service Award to Chair, Joyce Anderson. The Committee will be meeting shortly.
