April 15, 2010: Fifty plus Rotarians and guests were present for the 26th Annual Distinguished Service Award Dinner in honor of this year’s recipient, Thomas A. Badman. A member of the Selinsgrove Areas School Board since 1999, Mr. Badman has been an enthusiastic volunteer working with youth sports, especially the midget football program in Selinsgrove. Fred Johnson served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. Eric Rowe, President of the School Board, spoke about the recipient’s work as Chair of the Building and Grounds Committee and the Extra-Curricular Committee, and as President of the Selinsgrove Athletic Council. Norm Zellers, Operations Support Manager at Sunbury Generation spoke about his work at both PP&L and Sunbury Generation, including his continuing role as a consultant and trainer. Jim Richmond and Art Bowen (speaking for Todd Benner) spoke about Tom’s work with Midget Football over the past 28 years. Of special note is Tom’s desire to have everyone of the 150 to 200 children who participate annually feel an active part of a team regardless of their individual skill level. Also in attendance, Tom’s wife Cheryl and other family members.
Announcements: Joyce Anderson is thanked for all of her work in making this special evening a success. Mark Tomeo provided music for the occasion. President Jeff Edmunds presided and presented the award.
