May 27, 2010: Twenty five or so Rotarians were present as Tom Gates, President of the SAYF Board presided. Today’s meeting celebrated the student scholarship winners, the Club for its generosity, and 17 years since the founding of the SAYF. Bob Soper, first Prsident, shared a brief history of the SAYF as it was founded to expand the scholarship program. Kendra Aucker, Chair of the SAYF Scholarship Committee, introduced this year’s recipients: Brooke Ritschel, SUN Vo Tech (will attend Johnson and Wales for culinary arts); and Sarah Goodling (will be an education/Spanish major), Roxanne Seltzer (will attend Va. Tech to study Dairy Science, with an emphasis on communication); and Corinne Aucker (who will attend Wilkes as a Pharmacy student) all grads of Selinsgrove Area High School. Kendra acknowledge the help and support of Chris Lupolt, guidance counselor. Billy Robinson, a member of the SAYF Board, was also present as a guest of Tom Gates. Discussion and vote on the following is now scheduled for the 3rd: Couples who are members of the Selinsgrove Rotary Club will be assessed quarterly Rotary International membership dues for each partner; however, weekly dues for meals will be assessed for one partner only. The other partner will be assessed a meal fee only when both are in attendance at the same meeting.
Announcements: Bob Fogle announced that tickets will be distributed to Rotarians next Thursday for the Chicken Barbeque, scheduled for June 12.*Mike Hayes announced that a “trial” evening of movies in the Commons will occur on Thursday, June 3 at 8:30 p.m. in the commons. Bring your family along for this opportunity to see how the District Simplified Grant helped this program become real. Movie Night on the Commons officially begins on 6/10 and Cathy Kline is circulating a sheet for 3 volunteers for each evening.**Konrad Kempfe reported on Exchange Student progress – hosts being sought for 2010 and 11.***Mike Damiano reported that EREY campaign ends June 15 – please contribute if you have not already done so this year.****Editor’s note: Hal Schriver pointed out that anonymous donor to Free Enterprise week gave $275, not $250 as previously reported.
