July 29, 2010: Thirty Rotarians and a guest were present for District Governor Constance M. Wydra’s official visit to the Club.  Connie was introduced by Jan Wilson, Lewisburg Sunrise, standing in for Assistant Governor, Judy Hoover. Connie, from the Ashland Area Club, expressed several goals for the year: Polio Plus and the importance of eradicating polio worldwide; RI Foundation and importance of continue support for the foundation; and membership numbers. 7370 will be redistricted if we are unable to raise numbers to 1100 this year. The District Conference is scheduled for April 29, 30, May 1 at the Holiday Inn at Grantville, PA and will use a western theme in honor of Ray Klinginsmith, RI President, who uses cowboy philosophy and phrasing in his “bigger, better, bolder” campaign for Rotary Clubs. Michael Hayes was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by the DG. Joyce Anderson introduced Scott Oliver from Sunbury Community Hospital. A Board of Director’s meeting with the DG followed. Announcements: 8/21 is the District wide Membership Workshop in Sunbury from 8:30 to noon, followed by lunch at a cost of $12 per person. Board of Directors meetings will occur following the club meetings on the 2nd Thursday of every month. Next board meeting is August 12. Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information about the reduction of reported cases of Polio in Nigeria. Sergeant at arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected fines as follows: from John Stokinger (guests, camping and bears); Art Bowen (family wedding and reopening of the Freeberg Empire Hotel); himself (Art’s dancing); Pat Pinkowski (granddaughters visiting for a week); Mike Flock (40th class reunion and connections); John Thompson (west coast trip); Jeff Edmunds (5k run); Diane Alderson (successful golf lessons); Mary Peterhaensel (travels to see grand children and crafts); Joyce Anderson (DG and Scott); Michael Hayes (DG, Jan, and dinner at Dottie’s); Wesley Knapp (47th wedding anniversary); Hal Schriver (50th anniversary celebrated in Williamsburg); Toby Skinner (morning at summer seals camp and kayaking on the river in a storm); Charlie McCuen (art course and golf course in VT); Donna Schuck (pic in paper, children in college); Konrad Kempfe (flowers on the table); Connie Wydra (grandchildren); and Earl Ferster (+15 and guests).

Aug. 12 – Jeff and Jacob Edmunds will describe their mission trip experience. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Aug. 19 – Rotary Family Picnic, 6 p.m., SVCC. Swimming pool will be available. Games for any children in attendance. Sign-up sheet circulating. Mike Flock will serve as Newsletter Editor.

Aug. 26 – Tour and lunch at the Snyder County Historical Museum, Middleburg, as arranged by Toby Skinner. 11:45 a.m.

Sept. 2 – TBA as arranged by John Bickhart, SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Sept. 9 – As arranged by Nelson Bailey, Club will tour the new Science Building and have lunch at Susquehanna University. 11:45 a.m. Newsletter editor needed.
