August 12, 2010: Twenty-seven Rotarians and guest Scott Oliver were present to hear Jeff Edmunds introduce his son, Jacob. In turn, Jacob showed a video he prepared about the Church of Nazarene Honduras mission trip experiences. The Club had given $250 toward the purchase of water filters from a manufacturer who matched donations. The Clubs donation provided potable water for ten families. Both Jeff and Jacob were enthusiastic in sharing what the trip provided to both native Hondurans and to those on the mission team. A regular Board of Directors meeting followed. Announcements: The DG has issued a membership challenge: persons who sponsor new members will be entered into a drawing for a restaurant gift certificate worth $50. ; Club Board meetings will on the second Thursday of every month following regular meetings; Rotary’s tree fest book for 2010 is Michael Recycle.
Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information about Rotary Club’s working in Haiti providing assistance in recovery from the earthquake, including work rebuilding a medical clinic and a college, in addition to providing food aid. An all Rotarians have contributed more than $2 million toward these and other efforts. Despite that, about 1.5 Haitians remain in tent cities, such as Shelter Box tents.
Sergeant-at-arms: Konrad Kempfe collected fines as follows: Happy Birthday fines from himself, Earl Ferster and Jeff Edmunds on behalf of his son who just turned 16; and from John Thompson (trip to the west); Tome Gates (Scotland and St. Andrews); Joyce Anderson ($15 from the Who Am I game); Bill Clark (back); Charlie McCuen (golf and art trip); Don Summers (kayak experience); Mike Piecuch (family reunion); Scott Olliver (happy to be here); and Earl Ferster (bd and +15).
