Feb. 24, 2011: Thirty plus Rotarians and a guest (Jeff Edmunds wife, Beth) were present to hear Ron “Buddy” Knoebel, of Knoebels  Amusement Park and Campground, will talk about the 85 year old family business. This was a very entertaining presentation, with lots of stories about the park’s development till today, when it is the largest free admission amusement park in the world. In June of 1985 it grew beyond a regional park with the installation of “The Rocket” – a pressure treated wood roller coaster moved by truck from San Antonio to Elysburg and reconstructed.  The park now employs between 1800 and 2000 seasonal workers (1/3 each adult, high school and college students) and 110 year round full timers. With 575 camp sites, and over 50 rides, the estimate on attendees each year is about 1 million five. Beth and Jeff Edmunds met at the park where they worked as teenagers, and a significant number of Beth’s family continues to work at the park, including her grandmother. The program was hosted by Bill Clark.  Bruce Marian was installed as the newest Club Member by Dottie Anderson, with assistance of his sponsor, Donna Schuck. Pat Pinkowski presided. Members pleased to welcome returning member Don Harnum. Marv Rudnitsky presented a $200 check from guests they hosted as part of the Beds for a Cause program.
