May 5, 2011: Twenty-six Rotarians and a guest (Don Summers’ wife Krista) were in
attendance for a presentation by, and lively Q & A time, with Linda
Schlegal-Culver, freshmen State Representative from the 108th
District. Don Summers was the host. Representative Schlegal-Culver is one of
only 23 women serving as a state representative in PA. She is serving on the
Agency and Adult Services Committee (with weekly meeting and a long agenda);
Commerce Committee (only one session to date); Labor and Industry (active
committee with weekly meetings) and the State Government Committee (very
active, looking a reforms, voter fraud, tort reform, welfare reform, and
redistricting. Public hearings are scheduled across the state this spring to
seek voter input. The Representative is not in favor of splitting
representation for the Susquehanna Valley, but believes redistricting by
population will see the districts moving westward. Much discussion occurred
about the 2012 budget proposal and debate. Votes about this will be coming up
in the House next week.

Announcements: June 11 is the Chicken Barbeque.
Tickets for members to sell were distributed. Members are expected to sell them
and turn in the proceeds or to pay for them outright. Members are asked to
return payment in the envelope provided. A signup sheet for working on 6/11 is
being circulated.*5/14, from 2-4 p.m. is the third annual Savor Selinsgrove
event with tickets for sale on line or the day of the event. The Club’s share
of proceeds from this event support RI Polio Plus program. **June 16 meeting
will be with the Sunbury Club at the Priestly House for a picnic and tour at
5:45 p.m. Tour cost is $4 per person. Signup sheet will be circulated.***President
John showed members the poster with Club PR that he displayed at the District
Conference, along with the participant ribbon. Bob and Vi Soper attended the
entire conference, John’s wife joined him for the Saturday dinner, and Hal
Dunkleberger attended on Sat. RI will be acting on the district merger during
2012. New DG will be installed in Ashland June 12. District bikers will be
coming through Selinsgrove 6/26 and the club will be providing a “stopping
point” at Rotary Field. This is to raise money for the Polio Plus program.
Selinsgrove Club goal for Polio Plus is to be met by the end of June.****Please
consider be a Beds for a Cause host.

Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared work of the Manassas, VA Club
with TN club to assist “Missionary Kids” at Union College who suffered losses
from the recent tornadoes.

Sergeant at arms: Konrad Kempfe collected fines as follows: from Shane
Hendricks (back, 350 kids playing Little League this year, five teams playing
on Rotary Field, new indoor little league practice facility opening in the
former Ott manufactureing facility near the Pump House); Art Bowen (phone flag,
spring, back, etc); Bob Soper (Dist. Conference, daughter and granddaughters
visit); Tim Duke (hunting); Joyce Anderson (speaker and Krista Summers, DA and
Pilot back); John Fischer (Fogle and Ferster work on barbeque); Mike Piecuch
(back, Summer SEALS successful 5K); John Stokinger (Conference and participant
ribbon); Donna Schuck (back and leaving early and son driving daughter home,
sun out); and Earl Ferster (+15, Shane’s report, leaving early).

Russell will speak on “How to Create Business through Football and Charity.” A
humanitarian, businessman, and author, Andy will have books available for sale
and will autograph them. John Fischer is the host. Guests are welcome for this
special event. Call Joyce Anderson to indicate any guests coming if you miss
the signup sheet that will be circulated.
