May 19, 2011: Thirty-three Rotarians and guests
were present as Tom Gates, VP of the Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation,
shared that to date Rotary and the Foundation have given scholarships to about
50 students valued at more than $100,000. The $10,000 provided by the Club is
what has made the SAYF, now SACF, possible. Tom introduced Kendra Aucker, Board
member and Scholarship Chair of the SACF, who introduced the recipients of the
2011 Rotary/SACF scholarships. Isaac Kunkel plans to attend Rochester Institute
of Technology to study software engineering. In high school he has been active
in a variety of music activities and especially enjoys his mathematics and
science studies, in addition to being active in the life of his church.Kaitlin Gill is also active in marching band and
the Technology Student Association, which she serves as President. She plans to
attend Messiah College to study nutrition and health.Jacob Ross will attend Gettysburg College as
a Political Science/Music major. He has pursued music in high school and is a
member of the Honors Choir and the TSA. He is involved in TSA at the regional
level. Amy Stahr will complete the dental hygiene program at the Vo Tech and
then study for two years at Penn College, pursuing studies in occupational
therapy. She has been involved in the French Club and Bowling, as well as
volunteering at an animal shelter and at Penn Village. These impressive young
people thanked the members of the Club for the scholarship support and have
been invited to stay in touch so we are aware of their progress. New member
Sheri Hoffman was introduced.
Announcements: June 11 is the Chicken Barbeque.
SELL, SELL, SELL, those tickets. Members are expected to sell them and turn in
the proceeds or to pay for them outright. Members are asked to return payment
in the envelope provided. A signup sheet for working on 6/11 is being

Hayes.**June 3-26, volunteers are needed to staff the SU Gallery for the Simon
Snyder Exhibit. Signup to work from 1:30 to 4:30.***June 26, the District Polio
Plus Bike Riders will make a stop at Rotary Field. More information later.****Mike
Damiano discussed EREY and stressed that this Rotary years donations are due by
mid June.
Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information about a project
started by the Lebanon, PA. Club, where member and ophthalmologist, Dr. Albert
Alley, in starting World Blindness Outreach, Inc., and, with matching grant
funds from RI, having performed 6000 sight saving eye surgeries on 70 missions
to 25 countries.

Stokinger, from himself (for veterans); Tom Gates (groundbreaking for the
Selinsgrove Library renovation and expansion this p.m.); Kendra Aucker
(students and Sheri); Pat Pinkowski (Little League and grandsons); Bruce Marion
(missed meetings); Wesley Knapp (missing next week); Hal Dunkelberger (leaving
early); Sheri Hoffman (happy to be a member); Mike Damiano (daughter on dean’s
list at SU); John Stokinger (Savor Selinsgrove); Nelson Bailey (election
results and son’s marathon completion); Bill Clark (son and son in law
completing Italy Auto Tour); Michael Hayes (guests, Savor Selinsgrove raised
$300 for Polio Plus); Chad Cohrs (students and games); Bob Soper (grandson
graduating from Temple, granddaughter graduating from Ohio Univ.); and Earl
Ferster (missed last week because of grandson’s graduation in Chicago and plus
15).

June 2 – Retired Pittsburgh Steeler Andy
Russell will speak on “How to Create Business through Football and Charity.” A
humanitarian, businessman, and author, Andy will have books available for sale
and will autograph them. John Fischer is the host. Guests are welcome for this
special event. Call Joyce Anderson to indicate any guests coming if you miss

16 – 5:45 p.m., meet at the Priestly House for a tour and picnic dinner with
members of the Sunbury Club. Cost of tour is $4.00. Signup sheet circulating
