July 7, 2011: Twenty-six Rotarians and guests were present as Rotarian and
Selinsgrove Library Director Jennifer Johnston and Pam Ross, Director of the
Snyder County Libraries, described the renovation and expansion of the
Selinsgrove Library and the fund raising project.Construction is already underway and is scheduled
to be completed in a year. The library is currently housed in the former
Jackson Penn school. The addition will provide space for a collection of 80,000
volumes, a separate children’s library area, additional computers and quiet
study space and will be completely assessable for those with disabilities. Pam
noted that the construction of the Selinsgrove Commons will begin next Monday,
with SPI having successfully raised funds for that project. The library project
necessitated raising 3.6 million, and, with the boost provided with Senator
Gordner’s assistance (bringing 1 and ¼ mil from the State), Pam was pleased to
report that what remains to be raised in the public phase of the campaign is
$800,000. Joe Kleinbauer is campaign chair, with Linda and Skip Wieder serving
as honorary chairs. Present was Del Kennedy, Board Chair, and Ann Gates (Tom’s
wife), a member of the development committee.
