October 13, 2011: Eighteen Rotarians and guests (Jesse Woodring,
Visiting Rotarian) were present to hear a talk by Gary Swan, Director of
Government Affairs for the Penna. Farm Bureau. Bill Clark was the host for this
interesting presentation on agricultural issues. The speaker spoke about the
environmental issues being presented by the EPA regulations concerning the
Chesapeake Bay, the concerns about the budget that has reduced funding for
extension and agricultural research, and the PFB’s position against Sunday
hunting.Numerous comments and questions
indicate these were topics of considerable interest to those present.A brief Board of Director’s meeting followed.

 

Announcements: President
Pat says sufficient helpers have signed up to distribute candy at the Halloween
Parade on 10/18. Workers should meet at Sharon Lutheran Church parking lot by
7:15 p.m. Toby Skinner is coordinating this project.*The Book selected for
Club’s Tree Fest tree is Mouse Soup by Arnold Lobel.**Jesse Woodring announced
11/11 Sunbury Club fund raiser – selling 300 tickets at $100 per for a Reverse
Auction.

 

Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information from Surakarta,
Central Java, Indonesia where the first Rotary Foundation global grant was
completed in July of 2011. The grant was successful in preventing the spread of
denque fever in this community.

 

Sergeant at arms: Konrad Kempfe collected
fines as follows: himself (good trip); Bill Clark (speaker); Joyce Anderson
(speaker, guest and grandkids); Pat Pinkowskii (grandsons football and academic
feats); Mike Piecuch (seeing a couple of Rotarians in court for good reasons
and student of the month daughter); Charlie McCuen (granddaughter’s good health
following fourth hand surgery); Bob Soper (in court for jury selection
process); Jesse Woodring (expecting 2nd great granddaughter today);
Mary Peterhaensel (daughter’s wedding and son’s new place); Ken Wager (2nd
in court Rotarian); Hal Dunkelberger (+15); and Dottie Anderson (thanks to
Konrad for trying to adopt Boots).
