This year’s honorees were Pete and Mary Anne “Cookie” DeWire. The DeWire’s have
been volunteering in Selinsgrove and the surrounding area for the past 40
years. Their involvement with Red Cross, Girl Scouts and East Snyder Park were
highlighted by guest speakers. Their key involvement in the development of East
Snyder Park was highlighted. The DeWires thanked everyone and both expressed
what a joy it has been for them to be involved in giving back to the community,
thus reinforcing Rotary’s Service Above Self
motto. Master of Ceremonies Mike Flock was joined by speakers Carol Barto,
Judge Harold F. Woefel, Jr., Snyder County Commissioner Joe Kantz and Rotarian
Art Bowen. Pete has also served on a number of municipal projects, often
volunteering his time and talents.

In addition to the feature
award of the dinner, John Bickhart made a presentation to Francis “Rudy”
Gelnett in appreciation for the large financial gift he left to Selinsgrove in
his will. Gelnett passed away last year. Accepting the gift was Jim Campbell, a
long time friend of Gelnett’s.In
