June 21, 2012:   Twenty Rotarians were in attendance to hear Kathy
Weller, an educator with the 4-H Extension Office in Middleburg.4-H has been around since 1912, when it was
started by Penn State University.The 4-H motto of “Learn by Doing” is offered
to kids who are 8-18 years old.There
are currently 16, 4-H clubs in Snyder
County
with about 180
participants.The 4 H’s stand for Head,
Heart, Hands and Health.4-H helps kids
develop skills in organization, leadership, record keeping, public speaking and
responsibility.It is run by kids with
leaders to guide them in their activities and meetings.Clubs can have a varied focus; from animals
to cooking, sewing and crafts.There are
more than 200 projects available for 4-H clubs to participate in.

 

Good News from Rotary: Rotarians Against Malaria in New Guinea – provided 900 nets to a
village to prevent mosquitoes from entering their living areas. This initiative is credited with making the
village malaria-free.

 

AnnouncementsThe Polio Plus Bike Ride is scheduled for this Sat. To support
riders, be at Rotary Field at 10 AM. 4th Annual Savor Selinsgrove (www.selinsgrove.net)
is scheduled for Saturday, June 23rd, from 2 to 5 PM in downtown
Selinsgrove.Proceeds benefit Polio Plus
and The Commons. Movie Nights on Rotary Field will occur the 2nd and
4th Thursdays from June through August at dusk. Mike Piecuch and Dave Lawer are co-chairing this
Rotary initiative and invite each Rotarian to come out for each of these
fun-filled, community-building times for fellowship with family, friends and
neighbors. Mike Flock handed out new brochures for the Selinsgrove Area
Community Foundation and asked everyone to check them out, and consider a gift
and/or share the brochure with friends who may have an interest in learning
more about SACF. John Thompson notified everyone that the Ham Radio Club is
holding an open house at the radio shack at the Penn Valley
Airport
this Sat. &
Sunday for anyone interested in learning more about ham radio operation.Hal Dunkleberger has new Rotary hats for sale
for $14.95.July 24th – Hot
Dogs at the Gazebo – sponsored by Rotary.Aug. 18th, Carnival Night at Rotary Field. and October 20th,
Rotary to have a stand at KidsGrove event.

 

Sergeant at arms: Happy fines were collected from Mike Flock (4-H & speaker), John Stokinger (bloodmobile), Ken Miller (vacation
& prairie dogs), Pat Pinkowski (summer heat), Bill Clark (Neil Diamond
concert and Yankees Vs. Nationals), Dave Lawer (Brian Neitz’s help, movie night
& Dottie A.), Toby Skinner (speaker & Dottie A.), Charlie McCuen (Memorial
Motorcycle ride for Brent Cressinger & artwork at Evan Hospital), John
Thompson (Father’s Day gifts) and a few others!!
