July 19, 2012: Twenty-six Rotarians and a guest (Mike Flock’s guest Jim
Taylor was Ryan’s coach) were present for a presentation about the Summer SEALS
Day Camp by co-directors Ryan McGuire and Lauren Hoover. Michael Hayes,
President of the SSDC Board, was the host and he introduced the program by
citing that a slogan from Summer SEALS would be “we are Rotary” and it is very
true that this is a program that exists because of the support provided by the
Club and members of the Club.Lauren
spoke about the academic side of the SEALS camp, which emphasizes improvement
of reading fluency and comprehension and basic math and its uses. Ryan spoke
about the “social” side and the way in which the program builds self-confidence.
The programs annual costs are $38,000 to
$40,000 and is free to the campers. Mike Flock once again had the campers at
his pond for a day and circulated some pictures from this year. An interesting
q and a followed the presentation. President Donna called upon Bob Soper to
present a Paul Harris award citation to Jeff Edmunds. A Board of Directors
meeting followed.

 

Announcements: Remember Movie Night on Rotary Field occurs the 2nd
and 4th Thursdays from June through August at dusk on Rotary field.*
Earl Ferster will need assistance from 6 or 7 members on 7/24 at 7 at the
Gazebo for Hot Dog Night sponsored by Rotary. **President Donna distributed
member 2012-13 calendars.***John Fischer notes that the 20th annual
Golf Tournament will occur 9/10 and help will be needed for this event.

dog in the morning); Jeff Edmunds (Ryan is one of his son’s coaches); Pat

Fischer (SACF Board meeting and Jim Taylor); Toby Skinner (SEALS and
co-directors and last Thursday’s movie night); Mike Flock (SEALS pond visit and
Jim Taylor); Dave Lawer (SEALS and Earl Ferster and Bob Fogle); Donna Schuck
(importance of 7/18J); John Stokinger (grandkids and the canoe); Don Harnum
(going to help on Saturday and good friend Joe Taylor); Chad Cohrs (SEALS, good
district teachers, and Jim Taylor); Jerry Rhoades (51st
anniversary); Michael Hayes (SEALS, Ryan and Lauren, and Rotary support); and
Earl Ferster (help of all kinds and +15).

 

Future Programs:

Aug. 2 – The Gelnett Trust and its uses, Dottie Anderson,
Chair of the Borough’s Finance Committee will present the program. SVCC, 11:45
a.m.

Jim Eberly’s visit with our Club.
SVCC, 11:45 a.m. Board Meeting with the DG precedes the regular meeting.All Board Members are asked to attend this
Meeting with the DG at 10:45 a.m. at the SVCC.

host this Club Assembly on Club Service/Membership. SVCC; 11:45 a.m.
