Sept. 27, 2012: Twenty-four
Rotarians were present for Dr. Wesley Knapp’s presentation
on his work in and belief in public education. With previous superintendent
experience in Alaska, NY and Vermont, and now as superintendent of the Midd-West
School District, Wes is very familiar with the budget and educational
challenges faced by teachers and administrators including trends toward charter
schools, cyber schools and home schooling. He believes the future will be a
“blended” school model. It is important that persons enter the teaching field
because they are inspired by the opportunity to give students the “gift of
time” – working with them one on one, as opposed to entering the field because
you couldn’t do something else or because of the salary and benefits. Ken
Miller was the host.

AnnouncementsEarl Ferster thanked everyone who helped
with the Market St. Festival. He believes we have netted approximately $650.
Donna Schuck reported that $64 was raised at the Polio Plus Purple Pinkie
stand.
*A substitute Editor is
needed to edit the newsletter on Oct. 11 – there won’t be a newsletter on that
date unless someone is able to volunteer to do this.
