Dec. 6, 2012: Twenty-six Rotarians were present for
a presentation about the Susquehanna River Valley Dental Health Clinic by Dr.
Sylvia Noteware. Brian Neitz was the host. The clinic, serving about 500 adults
and children a month, accepts patients from Snyder, Union and Northumberland
Counties who are on Medicaid or who have no dental insurance. The need of
dental services and the economic and individual effects of not having dental
care are well documented. Dave Lauer is working on the development of a fund
raiser with several Rotary Clubs to raise money for the Clinic so that they can
provide services above and beyond what is covered by Medicaid. Dr. Noteware
serves as both the full time dentist and the Director of the Clinic. She spoke
about the difficulty finding staff and what it is like to do this hard and “heart”
work.
