January 31, 2013: Approximately 70 Rotarians, Young
Farmers, partners and guests were present for Urban/Rural Night at Christ Community
Methodist Church. The speaker was Pennsylvania’s Secretary of Agriculture
George Gregg, introduced by host Jerry Rhoads. Secretary Gregg spoke
about his tenure (since 2/11) and legislative accomplishments, such as the
eliminating of the inheritance tax. The extensive portfolio of the department
is surprising – in addition to being responsible for the Farm Show and all 108
County Fairs, other department responsibilities include truck weights and measures,
food distribution, WIT program, restaurant inspections, dealing with federal
regulations, horse and harness racing, and working to identify additional
markets for PA products. Mr. Gregg has had 30 years experience as a dairy
farmer and as a township supervisor and he is honored to serve the state as
Secretary of Agriculture. All
in attendance said thank you to the “Busy Bee” organization at the church for
their hard work in preparing a delicious meal.

Conference is scheduled for 4/26-28.*Daffodil Day sales sheet is being
circulated by Earl Ferster. The flowers will be delivered 3/31.**President
Donna is proceeding with implementation of the Four Way Test speakers contest.
She has identified a teacher at each school and they are identifying students
interested in this project.
