Selinsgrove Rotary
Club
Peace through Service
Vol. 86, No. 33
President – Donna Schuck Editor – Dottie Anderson
Next Meeting: March
7, 2013 – Jennifer Mattive of T & D Cats will be the speaker. John
Stokinger is the host. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
February
28, 2013: Twenty-five Rotarians and guests
were present to hear speaker Gary Grossman, Publisher of The Daily Item speak about the business of newspapers. Tom Gates
was the host. Tom’s wife, Ann, was also present. Wes Knapp presided. Gary spoke
candidly about the cost cutting efforts that have occurred in print media –
smaller page, fewer sections, less expensive paper, graphic hubs, etc. This is
necessary because of the cost of print versus the use of mobile devices in the
delivery of news and ads. Some papers have gone to only being on line or
cutting to three days only in print. This is clearly a “challenging” time in and
for print media.
Announcements: District
Conference is scheduled for 4/26-28 in Gettysburg.*Bryan Kelley remains
interested in starting a Rotaract Club at Susquehanna. What can we do to help?**Art
Bowen has potential speakers if hosts need assistance in identifying a
speaker.***Dave Lawer reported on “the Ward near the Susquehanna River Shore”
fund raiser to be held in April, sponsored by local Rotary Clubs in support of
the Dental Health Clinic.
