Next Meeting:
Sept. 5, 2013 – Mike Piecuch will speak
about the Snyder County Coalition for Kids. Mike Flock is the host. 11:45 a.m.
SVCC.
August 29, 2013: Twenty-three Rotarians were present for
Cory Iannacone’s presentation: HR 101: George Constanza and Employment Law ADA
to Z. Art Bowen was the host. Cory is an employer side Labor and Management
attorney with Rhoades and Simon in Harrisburg. Using snippets from a Seinfeld
episode, Cory informed us of the things employers need to be aware of when
interviewing potential employees – like having a clear and concise position
description and not asking inappropriate questions. It is important to spell
out the essential functions of a job and to describe the physical requirements.
It is clear that employment laws attach as soon as a person is being
interviewed. The episode of Seinfeld shared what can happen when an employee or
potential employee uses the system.This
was an informative presentation.
Announcements: John Fischer spoke about the Golf Tournament, a scramble format, scheduled
for 9/9. Sixty plus golfers are signed up so far, with more being sought.A sheet was circulated for members to sign up
to volunteer at the event.Any Rotarian
who is not playing the tournament can sign up for dinner at a cost of $25. *Ken
Miller spoke about the project of replacing the sewer line at the Field – it is
possible that the Borough will cover the cost of work form the curb to the tie
in. This would reduce the cost from $4100 to $1400. Ken also noted the doors on
the building have be+en replaced and painted.**Dave Lawer has attended the
District’s Grants workshop and we are now eligible to apply for one of the
grants – international and/or local.Discussion ensued. Mike Flock has heard from a GSE team member from
Brazil who visited our club and is now President of his Club asking if we are
interested in joining with them in a project. We have a short time frame if we
are interested in applying for this year so it is urgent that we pay attention
to this NOW.***It is noted that we need to find or obtain a Rotary drop down
sign for events in which we participate.
