Jan. 16, 2014:
Twenty Rotarians and one guest listened
to Colby Snook from the Snyder County Probation Office as he described how the
Snyder-Union Drug & Alcohol Court Program works. This is an alternative way
of dealing with those convicted of crimes that have substance abuse issues.
There are three phases to the program and how long the individual spends in
each phase is unique to their own success. The program is a much less costly
way to deal with offenders than just putting them in jail. Most participants
come from broken households where the use of drugs or alcohol by their parents
was commonplace. Participants are closely monitored and rewarded throughout the
program and upon successfully completing the program – they graduate. The
program has a number of great success stories.

Announcements: Urban/Rural Night dinner on Jan. 30 at the CCUMC on Park Rd.
