 February 12, 2015: Twenty Rotarians and guest Dan Mahoney, were present as new member David Betz gave his vocational/classification talk. Born and raised in Danville, Dave returned to the area when he completed degrees at the University of Pittsburgh. He is married and they have two sons – 13 and 12, who keep the family busy attending soccer and other sports in which they participate. Dave is a runner and this Sunday will complete the last of a Winter Series (6 ½ miles) on the hills in Selinsgrove. He is a third generation broker with Janney, Mongomery, Scott and, 22 years after joining the firm, is the Sunbury office branch manager. Dave responded to several questions related to his experience in the 90’s as a member of the Danville Rotary Club and types of fund raisers that were tried as well as questions about running a brokerage.

Announcements: Dining out night at the Texas Roadhouse, Wed., 2/11, was a success with 10% of the meal cost for all who presented the flyer given to the Club to support Polio Plus. Between 50/50 sales, donations and dinner proceeds, $335.58 was raised for Polio Plus. **Joyce Anderson reported that Carol Handlan is delighted to be the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. The dinner is scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at the SVCC, 6 for social time, with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Do plan now with partners and other guests to attend this important annual event in the Rotary year. ***Dave Lawer reported that he has received an e-mail from Susquehanna inviting beginning dialog on establishing a Roteract Club.

Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe spoke about Clubs in Spain that came together to raise funds for the purchase of an industrial dishwasher and freezer for a homeless shelter in LaLinea de la Concepcion. The shelter provides housing for 17 men and women and food for about 520 families.

Rotary Minute: Pat Pinkowski thanked everyone who attend TX Roadhouse event for Polio Plus and was pleased to see members from other Rotary Clubs attend the event.
