April 30, 2015: Twenty-eight Rotarians were present to hear from Peggy Vitale, CEO of Suncom Industries, Inc., about their work with and for people with disabilities – intellectual, developmental and physical. For 48 years, Suncom has worked to help persons with disabilities to to reach their potential, providing jobs, skills training and adult day care, their clients number about 500 ranging in age from 21 to 90 plus. Each client has an individual support plan. With major locations in Northumberland and Bloomsburg, employment occurs on site or in local businesses. Rocky Baer was the host for this informative program about an important service. Announcements: The flag program is underway – at $25 per flag, available at Boro Office, VFW and Legion, with 200 available for sale. A plan for presentation developed by Dan Rowe and Ken Miller, including the Fladers Field poem and sign, will be installed on 5/21. *Help identify four host families whom our inbound exchange student would live with for 3 months each. Fanny arrives in August. Please discuss with partners and others to see if we can identify host families over the next two weeks. A list was circulated for members to commit to paying the expenses during Fanny time in Selinsgrove. Raven Rudnitsky will serve as Fanny’s counselor for the year. **Dan Mahoney has volunteered to set up a schedule for Rotarians to assist in packing Meals for Seals meals, and Ryan Felty is working on fund raising ideas. President Dave will deliver foods to the church for packing if Rotarians want to bring supplies to a meeting. If you or partner are going shopping, buy some Nutri-grain bars; individual boxes of cereal, juice boxes, boxes of peanut butter or cheese crackers, EZ Mack ‘n Cheese in cups, microwavable pastas; pop-top lid of soups, pastas, tuna (or foil packages); or any meal complete items that just add water and can be microwaved. Rotary Minute: Dave Lawer spoke about the Shelter Box program and board decision to fund one ($1000) given urgent needs in Nepal. The Board has approved the SACF Pass Through fund, which will enable individual donations for the Club 501 3(C) gifts to be tax exempt for the donor. John Fischer spoke to this on behalf of the SACF. Dave also shared that a full Shelter Box display will occur at the former Hanes Music Store at 6:30 p.m. on May 7, arranged by the new club in Shamokin Dam. Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information about a program to provide safe drinking water in rural Kenya spearheaded by a Club in Tokyo Hiro. Sergeant at Arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected happy fines as follows: Happy Birthday to Bob Fogle; from himself (Pres. Dave; John Stokinger (in Baltimore for baseball game); John Thompson (security at Arts Festival); Mary Peterhaensel (late); Mike Flock (Hilton Head time); Tom Gates (Joyce’s work and Interact 5K); Bob Soper (being on the Ave. for the 5K); Dave Betz (son’s win and 5K race); Konrad (Dave’s energy); ohn Fischer (for establishment of fund and Dave, etc.); Dave Lawer (Bd. Boy Bov; speaker, grandson, and 5K runners Dave Betz, who won, and Tom Gates); Mike Piecuch (good weather); and Earl Ferster (+15 and Bob Fogle).

May 21 – At Rotary Field, Steve Fluter will speak about and demonstrate the Croquet Your Way fund raising program. We will have lunch catered by Isabella’s, in the pavilion and following the program, install the flags. John Stokinger is the host, Rotary Field, 11:45 a.m.

May 28 – Program about Camp Cadet, Speaker will be Trooper Richard L. Blair, Community Services Officer, PA State Police. Host is Don Rowe. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

June 4 – Speaker is Margie Reier, National MS Society group leader from Lewisburg. Topic: Modern MS Treatment Group Therapy. SVCC, 11:45 a.m. This meeting will be preceded by a 2015-16 Board of Directors meeting.
