Next Meeting: May 21, 2015 – 11:45 a.m. At Rotary Field, Steve Fluder, CRQ, will share information about the Croquet your way fund raiser being planned for the Club. John Stokinger is the host. Lunch catered by Isabella’s. Following program those who are able will assist in installing the flag display.
May 14, 2015: Twenty-four Rotarians were present to meet the 2015 winners of the Rotary Club/Selinsgrove Area Community Foundation Scholarship. Kendra Aucker was the host, and after brief remarks to the students, she introduced the students and they each had the opportunity to share a bit about their plans. Garrett Aucker, will graduated from SUN Vo Tech and continue his education at Penn Tech. He has won regional and state wide contest in automotive tech, and will attend nationals in July. He plans to complete a Business administration degree and eventually be in management. Catherine Lucchi has spoken at Rotary before as a participant in the 4 Way Speech Contest and is the Club’s outbound exchange student who will be studying in Taiwan next school year. She plans to engage in studies related to linguistics and will study French at Middlebury this summer. Jessica Kerstetter is a three sport athlete who plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh as a premed, biology major. She has participated in the People to People program and serves a counselor in a summer camp for youth with Spina Bifida. Shayna Tramutola who is originally from NY, works at Perkins in addition to being a member of the French Club, the Honor Society, and the Key Club. She also volunteers at the Ronald McDonald House. She plans to study Business Administration at Wagner College where she will be a part of the Honors Program. What a delight it is to meet and assist these outstanding young people. Chris Lupult, Guidance Counselor was also present, and is thanked for his assistance in enabling the scholarship selection. The new Chair of the Scholarship Committee of the SACF will be Dave Lawer.
Announcements: If you or partner are going shopping, buy some Nutri-grain bars; individual boxes of cereal, juice boxes, boxes of peanut butter or cheese crackers, EZ Mack ‘n Cheese in cups, microwavable pastas; pop-top lid of soups, pastas, tuna (or foil packages); or any meal complete items that just add water and can be microwaved for the Meals for Seals program.*Bob Soper reported that Jerry Rhoads is improving and circulated a card for Rotarians to sign.**Dan Mahoney requested Rotarians to sign up to volunteer to be of assisting in packing meals this coming Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Call Dan is you can help.***Pat Pinkowski announced the change in meals at the Club which started today – no more buffet, but rather plated meals delivered to us as we arrive. Written feedback is requested.
Rotary Minute: Pat Pinkowski spoke about the Polio Plus Program and what is being done to completely eradicate polio, which is still present in Nigeria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
Good News of Rotary: Konrad Kempfe shared information about a program to provide disposal of medical waste at clinics in Toledo, Spain being funded by a Florida Rotary Club.
Sergeant at Arms: Konrad Kempfe collected happy fines as follows: Happy Birthday to John Stokinger; and from Ken Miller (student guests and positive assistance for those impacted by the Church fire); Toby Skinner (High School success and Kendra’s Econ. PA. award); Chad Cohrs (scholarship winners, high school success, sports teams, daughter graduating); Bill Clark (mother’s day); Mary Peterhaensel (91 year old mother, students); Joyce Anderson (students); Kendra Aucker (being here and students); and Earl Ferster (+15 and students).
