July 9, 2015 – No Meeting Fourth of July Holiday

Next Meeting: July 16, 2015 – 11:45 a.m., Cafeteria at the Selinsgrove Intermediate School (enter via 18th Street) with the Summer SEALS Day Campers and staff. Dottie Anderson is the host. Rotarians are asked to spread out among the campers at the lunch tables.

 July 2, 2015: Twenty-six Rotarians were present to hear Greg Cole of Cole’s Hardware speak about his business and plans for the new store in Selinsgrove. Bill Clark was the host. Greg and his brother co-operate the business with Greg carrying responsibility for the operations side of the business. Started by their great grandfather, they are the fourth generation to operate this family owned business. They have 11 stores in this area, plus a Danville warehouse, and are affiliated with Tru-Value. The new Selinsgrove store will open August 22 and occupy 1/3 of the former Weis Market on Broad Street. Greg and his son are both graduates of Susquehanna University and his son is now also a part of the business which they see a clearly about people and place. Greg’s “passion” for the business and his success was obvious to all in attendance.

Announcements: Melissa Lanewski circulated a signup sheet both for workers and donations for the Rotary Hotdog Night at the Gazebo on July 21.*At the Board of Director’s meeting that preceded, the members present worked on the 2015-16 budget and this will be discussed with the membership at the 7/23 Club Assembly to ascertain the Clubs priorities and values.**Incoming exchange student Fanny will arrive on 8/16 and Marv announced that all four of the host families are in place (including Rotarian Toby Skinner).***Thanks were extended to Charlies McCuen, Brian Neitz, Art Bowen, and Paul Williams for stepping up to run the movie night at the field on July 9.****Donna Schuck chaired a meeting last night of the committee working on the Croquet Your Way fund raiser and planning in earnest has started for this event that will occur on May 21, 2016.*****Antiques on the Avenue is Sunday July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sergeant at Arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected happy fines as follows (to the best of the editor’s ability to keep up): Happy Birthday to Joyce Anderson; himself (speaker and service at Cole’s); Tob Gates (Myrtle Beach with family); Toby Skinner (speaker and Cole’s); John Stokinger (good trip): John Thompson (currently #1 place in radio contest contacts); Charlie McCuen (sun out and golf); Dave Betz (speaker and son’s athletic participation); Dave Lawer (speaker, Marv, movie step ups); Mike Piecuch (speaker, movie volunteers, Earl); Art Bowen (women’s soccer win, and speaker); John Fischer (boys game win); Melissa Laniewski (missed Board meeting, speaker’s and Cole’s); and Earl Ferster (+15 and convenience of hardware store in town).
