Vol. 88, No. 6                                     President – Mike Piecuch                   Editor – Dottie Anderson

Aug. 13, 2015:  Twenty-eight Rotarians and guests (Nelson Bailey and his daughter) were present as Karen Hackman (a Lewisburg Sunrise Club Rotarian) spoke about the organization and purposes of SIDCO. Rocky Baer was the host and Michael Damiano was the greeter. Originally started as part of the Chamber when the state was facilitating shovel ready industrial projects, the Susquehanna Industrial Development Corporation was intended to be holding and selling real estate (the 7 shovel ready sites on Rt. 522).  Now a separate Economic Development group focused on job creation for Snyder County, it is engaged in strategic planning and concentrating on 1) a study of commuting patterns (which showed the extensive commuting that is occurring between counties for work); 2) affinity economic and industrial development (ex. Playworld helping supplier relocate to New Berlin); and 3) does it make sense for there to be an organization in Snyder County focusing on Economic Development (or is it a better model to think regionally). Conversations with commissioners in both Snyder and Union County are exploring regional possibilities.
