March 24, 2016: Twenty-three Rotarians were in attendance as Ms. Jayme Hendricks, Central PA. Division Director of Outpatient Services, Gaudenzia New Beginning, spoke about this program designed to treat persons with substance abuse issues. Don Summers was the host. Jayme is a graduate of Selinsgrove Area High School and Susquehanna University and has 21 years of experience in the field, having begun her career working at a Maximum Security Prison in Maryland. Gaudenzia is an Italian word meaning “the joy of living” and the program uses Therapeutic Communities to assist clients to remain substance free. Over half of its employees are recovering addicts, and it provides individual and group counseling, psychiatric/psychological referrals, Treatment court services, detox referrals and vocational referrals. It was founded in Philadelphia in 1968. Jayme sought to educate the members on the extent of the problems in our area and the impact on others. Joyce Anderson introduced new member Sarah Manaval.
Announcements: Donna Schuck and John Stokinger gave a progress and motivational talk about Mallet Madness, our 5/21 fundraiser. Letters and brochures have been and are being distributed. John Stokinger spoke of the need for all Rotarians to step up and participate in a variety of ways to set up and assist at the event both on 5/30 and 5/21. This is definitely an all hands on deck event. 6 teams are already registered. *Registration is open for District 7360 Conference, see Hal if you would like a reservation form.
