Selinsgrove Area Rotary Club
Be a Gift to the World
Vol. 88, No. 43 President – Mike Piecuch Editor – Dottie Anderson
Next Meeting: May 19, 2016 – Speaker will be Ron Cohen, Vice President for University Relations at Susquehanna. Dave Betz is the host. Ken Miller is the greeter. Substitute Editor needed. 11:45 a.m., SVCC.
May 12, 2016: Twenty-two Rotarians and a guest (Jessica Charles of the Lewisburg Sunset Club to acquaint us with their egg drop fund raiser and to sell tickets) were present as Mark Wolfberg, Director of Transportation and Safety for the Selinsgrove Area School District, spoke about his work. Chad Cohrs was the host and Charlie McCuen was the greeter. Retired from the Selinsgrove Police Department after 30 years, Mark joined the school district in 2013 and indicates a fast learning curve about transportation in the district. At a cost of approximately 1.6 million annually, they transport approximately 2050 students daily. Students, except for those with special needs, who live within the Borough limits are considered walkers if their location in town has a safe walking route. In addition, transport is provided for CSIU and faith based school students. On the Safety side of his position, Mark is pleased with the developments that include visitor ID check and photo system, audio and video monitoring on busses, new numbering of outside doors on all buildings and new directional signs. The system is tied in to 911, providing assistance to any first responders who need to come on campus. Mark responded to several questions and seems to be enjoying his new role.
Announcements: Plan ahead – Installation of 2016-17 Officers and Directors is scheduled for June 23. *Donna Schuck reported that to date we have raised $6800 as part of the Mallet Madness fund raising event, with additional sponsorships and teams still possible. John Stokinger indicates he could still use some more referees for the tournament and we still seek players for some already sponsored teams. All help is appreciated with this significant venture.**Ken Miller indicates he has a rental check for use of Rotary field in August and he will get this to Don Rowe.***Hal Dunkelberger spoke about the report from Rotary Legislation Council and changes the Club could adopt – it is now possible to hold meetings only twice a month and to adapt times of meetings and types of membership. The Board will want to discuss these to see if we wish to make changes to our Club by-laws.
