June 16, 2016: Twenty-seven Rotarians and guest Jerry Beaver, were in attendance as Donna Schuck and John Stokinger, with tech support from Jared Roush, reported on Mallet Madness. With some fun “kibitzing”, Donna presented Jerry, the designer of the brochure and event program, with a Dunkin Donuts mug and many many thanks for his good work on behalf of Mallet Madness (and, he’s ready to do it again in 2017!). Noted from the power point, we had 66 people signed up to play, with 64 showing up despite a rainy day. The continental breakfast, rules review and lunch after every one played two games, were well received. Twenty non-profits vied for the prizes, with SPI winning $1000, Library 2nd, for $500, and Girls on the Run 3rd place for $250. The date next year is 5/20/17, with plans to obtain the large sponsor to allow for donations of $100 to each non-profit who participates. Other ideas being thought about: a Friday evening social, giving out a spirit award, having a limit on age – perhaps providing a separate time for young kids to play. Steve Fluter, from Croquet Your Way, provided all of the equipment and advice that helped us design and pull off a successful event. Melissa Laniewski pointed out that Steve’ web-site is a good way to become familiar with the rules and the play. In total we brought in about $7,244 to the Rotary Fund of the SACF, on expenses that run between $6800-6900. Given that our goal was to break even, we are well pleased with our first effort and look forward to it growing and becoming an even more popular event.

Announcements: Golf Tournament (24th annual) is scheduled for 9/12/16 with proceeds benefiting the SACF and The Selinsgrove REC. *Melissa Laniewski circulated a signup sheet for helping at Hot Dog night at the Gazebo on July 19.**Beginning of Movie Night at Rotary Field is tonight at about 8:45 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy Paddington.***Plan ahead – we will join the Summer SEALS Campers for Lunch (and to get your car washed if you wish following lunch) on Thursday, July 28 at the Intermediate School (18th St).
