June 23, 2016:  Twenty-seven Rotarians and guests (Mary Peterhaensel’s son Karl and granddaughter, Leah), were in attendance for the Installation of the 2016-17 Rotary Board of Directors. With Dottie Anderson serving as Installing Officer, outgoing President Mike Piecuch provided a reflection on his Presidential year. Using the 4 Way test, Mike shared his original reluctance to accept the presidency and his delight in having done so. He thanked all the members for sharing their gifts and talents in pursuit of Club projects and his belief that members act with character and discipline. Those installed are: Mary Alice Peterhaensel, President; Mike Piecuch, Past President; Hal Dunkelberger, Secretary; John Fischer, Treasurer, Cheryl Stumpf, Vice President, Toby Skinner, President-Elect; Avenues of Service Directors: Art Bowen (Cub Service); Dave Lawer (International Service); Joyce Anderson, Vocational Service; Melissa Laniewski and Jared Roush, Co Community Service; and, in absentia, Marv Rudnitsky, Young Generations.  President Mary Peterhaensel spoke briefly using an article entitled “Reasons we don’t reach for the stars” which she had just finished reading when Dave Lawer, for the nominations committee, called her about serving. She promises to “do the job” to the best of her ability. The first Club Assembly is scheduled for July 14. Mary passed around a copy of the RI Council on Legislation information about how Clubs can alter current membership and meeting possibilities. The Board will be talking about that information to determine if there are changes to be recommended to the Club.  The RI theme for the year is “Rotary Serving Humanity.” Mike Piecuch presented Mary with both the gavel and a bouquet of flowers.

Announcements: Golf Tournament (24th annual) is scheduled for 9/12/16 with proceeds benefiting the SACF and The Selinsgrove REC. *Hot Dog night at the Gazebo is July 19.**One Summit is scheduled for Aug 6 in State College, with the grants portion occurring from 1:30 to 3. We need three members to attend in order to be eligible to apply for RI and District grants this Rotary year.

Sargent at Arms: John Stokinger collected happy fines as follows: Happy Birthday to Pat Pinkowski; himself (guests and those being installed); Melissa Laniewski (for Jared serving as Co-); John Fischer (LBI vacation, connecting with former exchange family and Eric’s need for ESL training); Dave Lawer (guests, officers, especially Mike Piecuch’s work as President); Art Bowen (40 year old daughter, SACF, Joyce’s work on Membership; incoming and outgoing officers); Mary Peterhaensel (family here and Mike’s year); Cheryl Stumpf (husband’s birthday, off to National Girl’s on the Run conference); Joyce Anderson (outgoing and incoming Presidents’, fun story for Bob Soper); Konrad Kempfe (Mike P); Sarah Manavel (new officers); Carol Handlan (past and future leadership, commons concert tonight, family reunion); Charlie McCuen (past and future leadership); Mike Piecuch (Seals UNC girls bball, and officers for their help); Bob Soper (Joyce’s story and officers); and Earl Ferster (+15 and Mike Piecuch’s term).

July 7 – NO MEETING – July 4th week.

July 14 – Looking Forward in Rotary – A Club Assembly, Mary Peterhaensel presiding. Learn about and discuss RI approved legislation about membership and meetings. A Board Meeting precedes this one at 11 a.m..,  SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

July 21 – Carol Handlan will give her classification/vocational talk, Joyce Anderson is the greeter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

July 28 – at the Intermediate Unit to have lunch with the Summer SEALS Day Campers, 11:45 a.m.  Campers will be washing cars after Lunch with no fee charged (but donations welcome). Dottie Anderson is the host. Dave Betz is the greeter.
