Next Meeting: August 4, 2016 – 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Rotary Field in Selinsgrove for the Summer SEALS Day Camp 10th anniversary celebration, complete with a buffet dinner and entertainment. Partners and guests welcome for this fun evening of good food and entertainment.
July 28, 2016: Seventeen Rotarians and guest Michael Hayes, were in attendance at the Selinsgrove Area School District Intermediate School for lunch with the Summer SEALS Day Campers and staff. The camp grew out of the vision and passion of past Rotarian Hayes, with members like Ken Miller, Tom Gates, Marv Rudnitsky and Dottie Anderson, in on the discussion that led to the establishment of the camp in partnership with Susquehanna’s Education Department, the School Disctrict and the SACF. Members enjoyed this opportunity to meet the current campers and hear about the 2016 camp. Dottie Anderson was the host. Co-directors Mary Herman and Cameron Weaver shared information about this summers’ program, introduced the staff who in term described their work and the three units and field trips. Dinosaurs (with a trip to Clyde Peelings), the weather (with an upcoming trip to the Punxsutawney weather center) and the Olympics (complete with games and handmade medals) were the units, in addition to a day a Pinto Bay courtesy of Mike Flock and John Bickhart, and a couple of trip to the Selinsgrove Pool all while improving reading and math skills round out the program. President Mary Peterhaensel took the opportunity to present outgoing president Mike Piecuch with the Rotary Past President pin. The car wash followed with the campers doing this as a community service.
Announcements: Golf Tournament (24th annual) is scheduled for 9/12/16 with proceeds benefiting the SACF and The Selinsgrove REC.*One Summit is scheduled for Aug 6 in State College, with the grants portion occurring from 1:30 to 3. We need three members to attend in order to be eligible to apply for RI and District grants this Rotary year**4th quarter bills have been distributed by John Fischer – payment due by end of Aug.
