September 1, 2016:  Twenty-three Rotarians were present to hear Ken Miller’s guest speaker, John Zechman, Snyder County Sheriff. Mr. Zechman was elected as SC Sheriff in November of 2015 and tarted as full time Sheriff January 2016. He is a graduate of the Sheriff’s Academy at Penn State. Mr. Zechman’ office currently has 6 full-time deputies and 6 part-time deputies. Among items for which the Sheriff’s department is responsible: Courthouse security, prisoner transport, serving sheriff’s warrants and issuing firearm licenses and precious metals licenses. Since in office, Sheriff Zechman is most proud of the updated equipment for the sheriff and deputies to wear, website/social media presence and obtaining digital tablets for the patrol cars. Sheriff Zechman is also working on bringing a K-9 unit to the department. Announcements: Golf Tournament (24th annual) is scheduled for 9/12/16 with proceeds benefiting the SACF and The Selinsgrove REC. John Fischer announced that sponsors and players are being sought and her circulated a signup sheet for volunteers to work that day.*4th quarter bills have been distributed by John Fischer – payment due by end of Aug.**Dave Lawer spoke about Market Street Festival, we will make and sell ham barbeque again.***Golf Ball drop is scheduled for 10/15 and all will be asked to sell tickets soon.

International Update: Bob Soper provided a hand=out and spoke about the Rotarians’s fight against Polio.

Sargent at arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected happy fines as follows: Cheryl Stumpf (had to leave early), Art Bowen (swimming at Marv’s house, family visits); John Fischer (back on the Rotary Board); Dave Lawer (speaker, Bob Soper’s work); Chad Cohrs (new school year, sports teams); Mike Flock (beehive transport); Mike Piecuch (missing a meeting, Snyder County Night Out); Carol Handlan (missing a meeting, SU Students weeding downtown); Joyce Anderson (speaker); John Reed (speaker, sheriff’s duties and thank you to the Sheriff’s department); Sarah Maneval (Kids back to school, kids football & cheerleading); Toby Skinner (son home visiting, Kelly Feiler’s appointment at REC, Carol Handlan’s commitment of watering plants downtown); Bob Soper (speaker); Jerry Rhoads (visiting son and fresh lobsters); Ken Miller (speaker and upcoming hunting season); Earl Ferster (speaker and +$15 goal).

Future Programs:

Sept. 15 – Official visit by the District Governor, Richard Drucker. All members are urged to be present. A Board of Directors meeting precedes regular meeting at 10:45 a.m.  Mike Flock is the greeter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

Sept. 22 – Speaker will be Makenzie Stover, Selinsgrove Borough Recreation Coordinator, host is John Stokinger,  Bob Fogle is the greeter.  SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
