October 27, 2016:  Twenty-two Rotarians were present as Jennifer Haine, Director of the SUN Area Career and Technology Center, spoke about the school and its programs which are based on the belief that academics are as important as skills training.  Chad Cohrs was the host for this Vocational Program, and Dan Mahoney, the greeter. Jennifer has just started her third year as Director, with previous experience at Columbia/Montour. The day program includes senior high school students from the 5 Districts (Selinsgrove, Lewisburg, Midd-West, Mifflinburg, Shikelemy) as well as, when spaces available, seniors from Milton and a few other districts. SUN provides 42 industrial certifications as well as a program with Penn College that allows students to earn college credits. Currently undergoing an 8 million dollar renovation and expansion, SUN tech continues to provide excellent skill education and guidance for the future to students.

Announcements: Thank you notes hand were circulated from the 3rd graders who received dictionaries from Rotary. Don Summers and Mike Damiano are thanked for continuing this beneficial program.*Konrad Kempfe circulated a thank you certificate from Shelterbox for our continued participation in that RI program.**Marv Rudnitsky announced that there is the potential of two candidates for the outbound Rotary Exchange program. He will convene an interview committee within the next couple of weeks.***Joyce Anderson followed up on the member recognition program from last week by giving Earl Ferster his chocolate bars in recognition of more than 25 years of membership.

Sargent at arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected happy fines as follows: himself (Penn State win); Melissa Laniewski (back and looking forward to daughter’s Pittsburgh wedding); Bill Clark (visit to grandson in Madison, Wisconsin); Pat Pinkowski (back from NC trip and visit with son and wife); Carol Handlan (West Va & SU men’s Rugby, success of Pop Up store, SPI hire); Mike Piecuch (Sunday weather and speaker); Dave Betz (back); Chad Cohrs (back and speaker, success of fall sports); Konrad Kempfe (fall leaves trip); Charlie McCuen (out of hospital, Pen State and Mich.);Toby Skinner (speaker); Joyce Anderson (speaker and thank you to Mike Damiano and Don Summers); Bob Fogle (Abby home); and Earl Ferster (speaker, rain and +15).
