Next Meeting: November 17, 2016 – Annual Club Meeting and Election of Officers and Directors. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.
November 10, 2016: Twenty Rotarians were present for this program in honor of Veterans Day, featuring Van Shipe, a veteran of the Viet Nam war who served in the army, having enlisted in 1963. Hal Dunkelberger was the host, Dave Lawer, the greeter. Joyce Anderson presided over the recognition of club veterans – those present, who spoke, were Bill Clark, Army; Art Bowen, Navy; Bob Soper, Army; Dave Lawer, Air Force; Tom Gates, Army; John Fischer, Air National Guard; and Earl Ferster, Army. Van shared pictures and described his time in both Korea and Viet Nam (13 months), exposure to Agent Army while operating heavy machinery to build roads and a camp with the 17th Engineers Battalion. This was a stunning reminder of the difficulties endured by service members during their service in that war and upon their return to the country. On behalf of the Nominating Committee, Dottie Anderson read the Slate for Officers and Directors for 2017-18 as follows: President – Toby Skinner; President Elect – Cheryl Stumpf; Vice President – Carol Handlan; Secretary – Hal Dunkelberger; Treasurer – John Fischer; Directors – New Generations, Marv Rudnitsky; Club, Art Bowen; Community, Jared Roush; Vocational, Sarah Maneval; International, Konrad Kempfe. There were no additional nominations from the floor on the 2nd call.
International Moment: Dave Lawer reported on the need for Shelter Box deliveries in Syria and of the contents supplied in the boxes.
Announcements: Marv Rudnitsky, Dave Lawer, and Dottie Anderson interviewed a candidate for the outbound Rotary Exchange program and have certified her to proceed to the District level interviews.*John Fischer reported that complete Shelter Boxes are not wanted in Haiti as the Board had requested for our donation so he awaits further directions. It looks terrific.****Tom Gates announced that a fund raiser for Meals on Wheels is scheduled at Wendy’s on 11/29 from 6 – 8 p.m., with 20% of sales going to Meals on Wheels.
