Selinsgrove Area Rotary Club
Vol. 89, No. 25 President – Mary Peterhaensel Editor – Dottie Anderson
Next Meeting: January 12, 2017 – Representative Fred Keller will be the speaker, Wes Knapp is the host. Tom Gates is the 1:45 a.m., SVCC.
January 5, 2017: Twenty-six Rotarians and guests (Susie Radel, Jim’s wife and Melissa’s sister) were present as host Melissa Laniewski introduced Jim Radel, a licensed pilot and WW2 memorabilia collector and historian. Jim spoke about his project of building a working replica of a P-51 Mustang military airplane, and brought interesting memorabilia to show. A definite “labor of love” the project is in its 9th year and he is delighted to have help as he pursues this dream. Parts have had to be fabricated, sanded, and painted on this historic wooden plane he is building from “scratch.” He shared information about Bill Beyer, a now deceased WW2 pilot who had actually flown a Mustang and other planes in the war. A Board of Director’s meeting preceded. Of special note is that the Board voted to make a $100 donation to Far Point Collie Rescue in Jerry Rhoads memory. We are reminded how much Jerry would have enjoyed the topic of today’s program. Jerry’s service is at St Paul’s UCC on Saturday.
