Next Meeting: Jan. 19, 2017 – Trooper Rick Blair, Community Services Officer, PA State Police, and President of Susquehanna Valley Camp Cadet, is the speaker. Mike Piecuch is the host. Toby Skinner is the presider and the greeter. Scholarship recipient Dylan Beaver will be present at the meeting. 11:30 a.m., SVCC.

January 12, 2017: Twenty-two Rotarians and guests (Erik Groes-Peterson) were present as Representative Fred Keller provided a legislative update. Wes Knapp was the host. In introducing Fred, Wes noted appreciation of Fred’s presence at many local area events. Fred spoke about state efforts on developing a budget, with agreement by the Governor and legislature, not to seek a personal income tax increase, despite need for increased revenue. He also noted the appropriations needed for this year for social services not covered in the budget. He believes this will be a year with much discussion about property taxes and potentially doing away with them. This would appear to have a negative impact on funds available for schools in areas like ours. Discussion and decisions are also needed about pension funds, with the state needing to keep its obligation to pensioners.  Legislation designed and proposed to reduce the size of the legislature will apparently be put forward again.  Reduction in the size of the legislature would reduce costs.  Interesting meeting for all in attendance.
