June 1, 2017: Twenty one Rotarians were present as host Earl Ferster introduced Eunice Troxell, Manager of the Selinsgrove Senior Center.  Wes Knapp was the greeter. The Center was opened 43 years ago, and serves 50 to 75 persons over age 60 (to 94!) on a daily basis. It is clear that Eunice loves her job and enjoys both the meal prep and event planning responsibilities. Activities range from the daily poker players to weekly quilters, to those who enjoy exercises like chair aerobics, and annual “field” trips. The Center is sponsored through the Union-Snyder Agency on Aging, Inc. and Eunice services as a point of contact to access the services provided by the agency. Services include Assessment/Care Management, APPRISE, Aging Waiver, Information/Assistance, In-Home Services, Legal Assistance, Link, Nursing Home Transition, Health program, Protective Services, Ombudsman, Transportation and Volunteer Services. At the Board Meeting that preceded, Sarah Manaval was appointed Director of Vocational Avenue of Service, and approval given to make $1000 donation to Polio Plus, $300 to Wheelchair project, and $575 to Free Enterprise Week if someone form Selinsgrove attending.

Announcements: Host Families are being sought for our inbound exchange student from South Korea. Speak with Marv Rudnitsky about this possibility. *July 25 will be our Gazebo Hotdog Night this summer.***ART BOWEN IS ONCE AGAIN SCHEDULING PROGRAM HOSTS FOR THE 2017-18 ROTARY YEAR – PLEASE E-MAIL OR OTHERWISE COMMUNICATE IF YOU KNOW OF DATES YOU ARE NOT AVAILABLE.****Dave Lawer is thanked for the flag display which he and Bill Clark will be taking down this afternoon. Mary Peterhaensel circulated a program for a major multi=group flag display done in Ohio.*****President Elect Toby Skinner has scheduled a planning meeting for all 2017-18 Officers and Directors at 8 a.m. on Tuesday June 20 at the home of Cheryl Stumpf. Breakfast will be provided.

Sergeant at arms: Marv Rudnitsky collected happy fines as follows: himself (speaker and Senior Center); Charol Handlan (speaker, retirement anniversary, ribbon cutting in Selinsgrove); Pat Pinkowski (speaker and quilting); Bill Clark (grandson’s graduation); Dave Lawer, speaker, Rotary Board and keeping financial commitments, Cheryl as a driving instructor); Art Bowen (dental visit, family visits); Cheryl Stumpf (speaker, Selinsgrove kids, son’s graduation, daughter’s job); Sarah Manaval (speaker), and Earl Ferster (speaker and +15).

Future Programs

June 15 – Host John Fischer has arranged for Jane Taylor to speak about and share photos of her recent trip to Vietnam. Greeter is Carol Handlan. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

June 22 – Matthew Beck, P.E. and Penn DOT Assistant Plans Engineer in charge of the Central Susquehanna Vally Transportation Project, will speak about the three preliminary alternatives for the project. Tom Gates is the host. Ken Miller is the greeter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

June 29 – Installation of 2017-18 Officers and Directors. Mary will have opportunity to speak about her year and Toby will share a bit about plans for her year as President. Bill Clark is the greeter. SVCC, 11:45 a.m.

July 6 – No Meeting in recognition of July 4th holiday.

July 13 – Dwayne J. Heisler of Fair Districts PA, a session on gerrymandering. Art Bowen is the host. SVCC, 11:45 a.m. A Board meeting precedes at 11 a.m.
