June 8, 2017:  Twenty-two Rotarians and a guest (Cheryl Stumpf’s daughter, Cassidy) were present as host Brian Neitz introduced Mark and Jeanne Mantz, owners of Sweet Granny’s Kettle Corn. Mark shared the journey they began about 10 years ago when they purchased a popcorn business. Both had been involved in entrepreneurial business (Mark, coal and Jeanne, cookie distribution) before an “impulsive” decision to purchase what was then Hillbilly Kettle Corn. After a number of ups and downs (especially when they were in a flash flood at Music Fest and facing a tax issue because of the previous owner) they renamed the business Sweet Granny’s Kettle Corn and expanded into gift baskets, fund raisers, additional gourmet popcorns, and sodas). They have now sold the “route” part of the business and will concentrate on other aspects of the business, continuing to concentrate on quality, good service, and integrity. Dave Lawer was the greeter.
